I have been working from home for 3 years running now. Not only that, I’m making more money working from home, having more freedom, and also have 100% control of my time, as compared to be an employee.

It’s almost 10 days since 2009 started! One of your goals, or new year resolutions, might be able to work from home.

Your reasons might be, “you hated your job so much, you just want to fired your boss!”

“You want your total freedom, 100% control of your life, rather than 9am to 9pm, being controlled and stuck in office.”

“You want to stay at home to take care of your kids.”

“You want to be able to feel secure, rather at the mercy of the next retrenchment program.”

“You want to…”

There will be tons of personal reasons why you want to work from home. I believe it’s really simple.

All you need is to decide, a plan and execute your plan. That’s all.

To Decide, is just about making a choice. Many a times, when we don’t feel good about making a choice is due to fear. And fear is just a perceptive and feeling, or rather an illusions that we created for ourself.

Next is to plan. And I believe with a well thought plan, it’s already 50% success! Most importantly, is to understand and calculate how much is your current expenses every month.

For my case, I have a house, a family, with kids, and bills to pay. So I have to put that into considerations. So, at least a 6 months to 1 year worth of expenses saving would be ideal.

If your monthly expenses is US$3,000, then you would need US$36,000 worth of saving before you might want to work from home full-time.

If I’m single, it would be much easier. I would maybe just need 3 – 6 months worth of living expenses. So depends what’s comfortable for you, and discussed with your partners if need be.

However, you can also considered starting a part-time business first, making that into a full-time income, before quitting your job.

I have friends who told me that, “Roy, you are so fortunate, you are able to work from home and enjoy the freedom.”

One thing they might not know is that, I have preparing myself, working on business after work for 3 years before I’m ready to start working from home.

Which means, I started to have an idea of working from home, 6 years ago, which is since 2003.

So, take baby steps, and I’m sure that you too can start making money working from home.

As I was writing this post, I was thinking of giving you something that I know is of excellent value to you, that you can use it and achieve your success in 2009.

I got to answer to my clients request, meet new clients and etc. Just to share a bit on my business. There are mainly 2 parts to it. Website Development and Internet Marketing.

Website Development is mainly providing website design solutions to our clients. Other than that, if they want to start selling or driving traffic to their website, we do that too.

We do not just offer SEO packages or Adwords packages like most others do. What we offers are proven, tested and actual traffic strategies that I personally use for my own internet business.

The second part to my business is my own Internet business. For example, my RoyPhay.com blog is something that I upkeep to share what I know. And I have many other niche website that’s making money.

RoyPhay.com is not so much focusing on making money, but it’s more on providing great value to others.

Simply said, from T. Harv Eker, Guerrilla Business Intensive, Website development is my Working Income, and Internet Business is My Passive Income.

So, a lot of people would ask, “Is Passive Income From An Internet Business Or Internet Marketing Real…?”

They cannot grasps the idea that money can be made while sleeping, money can be made hands-free, money can be made while on holiday.

All of these are true! (at least for me)

One thing personally for me, I don’t talk from theory, I only share from actual experience from what I have done and what I know and most importantly, what I do.

If you have been following my posts, you would know that I have launch my Version 2.0 of an online game strategy guide.

Let me share a bit on the demographics of this online game. For this particular online game, it’s very similar to World of Warcraft, so I thought the demographics would be from kids to adults.

Boy! I was wrong! When I research deeper, they are all kids, from 8 years old to 16 years old, with no credit cards, and no money to buy my guide.

Not only that, my competitor all are selling at only $5.50, $5.95, $9.95, and only one website selling at $14.95, when I started 2 years ago.

My version 1.0 was priced at $14.99, $18.99 and $27.99. Why the 3 prices? Simple! Rather than giving one guide, I break into 3 packages, and you know what…?

65% of my sales go for $27.99, 30% goes for $14.99, and only about 5% goes for $18.99.

So, I was working on version 2.0 since April this year, took me 2 months to work on it. With that, I decided to launch on 27th June 2008.

It was exactly 23 months later my first version.

I’m not sure it’s a good decision, because on 27th June 2008, was my 3rd day of Guerrilla Business Intensive. Not only that, I’m going away for my short trip ( which was planned ) on the 2nd July 2008.

So, basically, after I launched on 27th June, I will not get to make any changes on my site until I’m back from my trip which is 10th July 2008.

If you have launched a product like I do, you would know that I’m crazy to launch a product, let it run for 2 weeks and not monitoring and making changes.

I know I am, but I have to, if not, July would not be possible to do it.

I’m more confident about doing well for version 2.0. The main reason is that I know my market well.

Just to give you a brief idea how many copies I sold in 2006. In first 4 days of launch, I sold 4 copies. In the first month, I only sold a total of only 6 copies, including the 4.

The main reason I was writing this post, is that I just login into my PayPal account… (finally, after all the clearing of my work)

and find out how is my this website doing.

To be frank, I’m happy for the results I’m getting right now. However, there’s still rooms for improvement, which is in plan, but have not done it yet.

Before I show you my screenshot, I want to be upfront that I’m showing you this is to encourage you, and inspire you that if I can do it, you can do it too. It’s not to prove I’m better or what. Definitely not my style!!

Okay?

The actual launched is on 27th June 2008, Singapore timing, but in USA, it’s still 26th June. If you notice, there’s a pretty big gap in sales from 4th – 8th July, with no sales.

Haha… that’s because my hosting company shut me down because there’s a sudden surge of traffic coming into my website.

Good problem, just that I have to solve that during my holidays, and I’m happy that it’s up after 28 hours of downtime.

So, moving forward, I’m working on my first back-end product and launch it tonight. And I have another back-end, so a total of 2 back-end.

Improve sales funnel, and also marketing. I’m happy for this site, and excited for the passive income that it can gives me on a monthly basic.

From my version 1.0, it took me 4 months to launch the product, 4 months to market it, and I live off 15 months of passive income, with only 30 minutes of maintainance every month. Not too bad huh!

So, I strongly encourage you to work on whatever project or product you been thinking of selling for ages. Just do it, (as Nike says), and you never know what you’ll get.

When I know it’s a kids market who do not even have credit card and money to buy from me, I’m ready to give up. I’m really thankful and grateful that I didn’t, if not I would have killed my very own “cash cow”.

No matter which answer you have in your heart, let me give you a brand new perceptive. I believe it’ll expand your horizon on how you define success in your internet business.

As mentioned yesterday, I’ll share a life-changing experience that I personally encounter in my trip to Sri Lanka. I’ll remember deep in my heart this impactful 10 minutes encounter I had.

Here’s how it goes…

We woke up early on day 7 of our trip, had breakfast, and was ready to continue the rest of the journey of our trip.

We were at Hotel Silver Fall, about 2,000 meters up in the mountain. It was cold up there, the morning shower was full of surprises, as the warm water would suddenly switch to cold ice water in matters of seconds.

Nevertheless, my family and myself had lots of fun.

We are in our tour bus and all ready to head down to the foot of the mountain. The journey would takes about 2 hours from the peak to the foot of the mountain.

If you have been to any mountain resorts or hotels, you would notice the winding roads that enable you to drive up and down the mountain.

The reason why it will takes 2 hours to drive up and down is mainly of that reason. The road is so narrow that it only able to take 1 buses comfortable, and it’s a 2 way road.

So, the driver have to drive slow and be really skillful at negotiating all the corners and be really alert of the incoming vehicles.

It’s very dangerous, as most drivers are very reckless, especially the public buses drivers.

As usual, we would see small pockets of stores, or local people selling local fruits, vegetables or even flowers fresh from the mountains.

As Harv says, “The Essence of Business is To Create It Or Buy it and Sell It for A Profit”. So, the local people do really knows how to do business.

As we drove pass, we saw this local man, taking a big bunch of flowers, full of colors, red, green and white, and waving at us to buy from him.

Of course, our host knows it’s really common in that mountain region, and it’s one of the methods to get make some money for themselves.

So, the bus continue to drove pass, going through the turns and heading down.

Moments later, we saw another man, taking also a big bunch of flowers, very beautiful and vibrant, doing the same action, waving at us, wanting us to buy from him.

The bus continue on…

Another 2 minutes later, as we turn into a corner and make a left-turn, we saw another man again, wearing almost the same outfit, with the same big bunch of flowers, and waving at us, getting us to buy from him.

I was not really observing the man until my wife make this comment, “Why Do All The Man In This Region Look The Same?”

It was until this time that our host make this comment that shocked all of us, including myself…

“It’s the same man all along!” (Did you guess it correctly?)

Everyone in the bus went, “Huh! The same person?”

We were shocked, including myself, I cannot believe it.

Do you know why? If you are in the same bus with me, you would not believe how he did it. Other than the roads that we are traveling is flat, the rest of the mountain is all steep slopes.

He’s not running behind the bus, as I did not see him do it. He dash his way down the steeps slopes of the mountain to get to the next point where he knew we will meet him again.

He’s native in that region, so he knows exactly where to run, but it’s really dangerous doing that. One wrong steps, and a slip, he might fall to his death or break his leg.

During that split second discovery, the bus continue it’s same speed heading down the winding mountain roads.

By the fourth time we saw him, we still continue to drive past. The only difference this time is that we saw him running down the slope, and crossing the road trying to catch up the fifth time.

By the fifth time, we gave in. Our host gave in, ask the driver to slow down, and park by the side of the road.

Seconds later, the man appeared, with the huge bunch of flowers.

It’s beautiful, no doubt about it, however, we do not need it at that point in time.

We opened the window and asked how much is it. We pay him 500 RS and we got this big bunch of beautiful flowers. (It’s really heavy)

I’m really upset forgetting to take a picture of his looks on his face after we bought the flower from him. He look really relief. He didn’t smile, but really relief.

I can see from his eyes that he’s glad that he managed to make 500 RS today.

Let me tell you another daunting fact. Do you know how much 500 RS is in your currency?

S$1 will convert to about 80 RS. So, 500 RS is only about $6.25 Singapore dollars

US$1 will convert about 100 RS. So 500 RS is only US$5

Imagine the extra mile, the risk and the hard work this man have to put in to only potentially about to make US$5 on that day.

How fast do you spend US$5 every single day? In a MacDonald Value Meal, in a StarBucks Coffee, or even in a bowl of noodles.

If most tourist didn’t stop the car, it would not only waste his effort running down, he might not even make US$5, and worst still, slip and fall during the attempt.

Not only that, even if he make the money or not, he still have to make the trip up the first same spot when we first see him.

This man really hit me deep in my heart and soul.

I cannot help “crying” in my hearts how grateful and thankful I am living in Singapore and exposed to the internet and able to build an internet business.

Just one sale from my recent launch of my ebook, one copy would be already US$14.95. And that’s already almost 3 flower sales of him running that same mountain slopes risking his life.

And if you look from the business perceptive, how many times do we need to keep engaging and going back to our prospect to take notice of us, trust us and in the end, buy from us?

Also, I’m sure you would have heard that it takes at least 7 times for someone to visit your website and read your salesletter before deciding to buy from you.

That’s non-other than true in this case.

You’ll start to see how does that help in giving you an extra booster in helping you to start an internet business.

Personally, I have been creating vision board for the past 6 years, way before “The Secret” took the entire planet by storm. As mentioned, it’s a secret that have been pass down centuries…

and I’m one of the lucky few who is taught about the law of attraction, how to use the sub-conscious mind to work for you and get the results faster.

I strongly believe my successes today, one of the main contributing factor, comes from creating a vision board. Even though I seldom talks about it, as most people feel it might not tied into…

making money online, internet marketing or starting your internet business.

Since I feel it’s something that have helped me accelerate my success over the years, I want to share that with you so you too can have that extra “rocket booster” to reach your destination.

So what is a vision board?

A vision board or a dream board is, “Your Goal or Dream on Paper”. That’s my definition.

Why is that so?

Simple! How it works is simply by putting your dream, all that you desire, what you like to achieve, and put it on a big board, with pictures, words, beautiful photos…

and with that, you’ll be creating a beautiful picture imagery of how your goal or dream will look like.

For example, usually, I would do it in 3 years or 5 years goal. So, I will ask myself, what’s my goal in 3 years time, or 5 years time?

What I’ll do is I’ll write it down, put it on paper, and list down all the items that I want…

and with the items that I want, I’ll start looking at magazines, search on internet, posters, or even take an actual photo shoot of the items.

So, what do I mean by items?

3 years ago… here’s a snapshot of some of my items that I wanted.

- On 30th Dec 2008, I want…
1) A Web Development and Online Business that’s giving me passive income, $________, and does 6 figures, $________, in 2008.

2) Home-based business where myself and my wife could enjoy, have our first baby, and have ample time for my new-born.

3) An Ivory Toyota 1.6 Altis Corolla, where we could drive around with my new-born.

4) and many more…

For that 3 items that I listed, for now, I have the first two coming true. And for the 3rd one, I choose not to buy one now, as we have slightly shift my goals.

Here’s a few things you want to take note when you write your items:

1) Be very specific. For example, An Ivory Toyota 1.6 Altis Corolla is more specific than “I want a car”. In this instance, you want to know the model, color, or even go for a test drive on that.

2) Have a dateline. Always have a dateline on all your goals and dreams.

3) Focus on positive affirmation. Let say you want to lose weight. Rather than saying, “I do not want to gain another 15 kg, and I’ll exercise to do that.” What your mind will ONLY see is, “I want to gain 15kg”.

So, you would want to change to, “I want to weight 45 kg after 90 days of exercise.”

4) Think of possibilities. When I first created my vision board, I keep asking myself, “Is this possible?” Starting an internet business, and make 6 figures out of it… come on, who am I kidding?

STOP!

You would want to stop your mind from giving you the limitations. Think of the possibilities, and think of what you really desire to achieve and just write it down.

After you have written down all your items, next is my favorite part:

Gather all your materials, photos and etc to create your dream board…

Give yourself a dateline and a time frame to work on getting all the materials and photos. Why?

Because if you don’t, you’ll never get to see the work done!

I used to put it up in a board in my bedroom, so that I can see it before I go to sleep and after I wake up each morning.

Now I have it on my desktop as a screen saver, and each time I take a 10 minutes rest, it will start showing.

So, do you want to see some of my new vision board for the next few years?

Okay, I’ll show you a few of my current ones.

I love cars, as I’m sure you can tell. So, I’m looking to have 2 cars for the next 5 years. The first one, of course, I will get is Lexus IS250. That’s what I’m looking for now, unless I change again.

I just went for a test-drive last Friday, with my good friend, and I totally love the car. So, this time I have decided on this model.

The next one, as you can see is Porsche Boxster. I love the yellow one, that’s why you can see me taking a photo with it.

Haha… in fact, if you look closely, that’s not a real photo of me with the yellow Porsche. The photo was taken from the internet, I add myself into the picture and look into the background…

you’ll see my company, SUNNET, logo on it. This one, I’m telling my sub-conscious mind this is what I want to see in 5 years time.

I really wish after reading this long post on a Monday work day for you, will give you new insights and inspiration to start creating your vision board.

“Roy, what is the fastest way to make money online? Does Internet Marketing really works, Or are you selling me the products just to make money?”

To find out the truth, and what’s the first key secret to start an internet business…

You might ask me, “Roy, all I want is to start making some money at home? Why do I need a secret, or even step-by-step plan or strategy? What is the fastest way I can make some money right now?”

Yes! You can “bang” yourself against the wall, or start looking for some “get rich quick” scheme out on the internet on “making some money right now”, but this entire blog is not about this.

I would have gone against my conscience, and also my integrity to introduce you “get rich quick” scheme, products or services online, if I have personally being “cheated” before.

This is not me! And if I “pissed” you because of that, I’m sorry, but please look for the greener pasture elsewhere.

With that having said, let’s look at what’s the first key “secret”? This a 3 part series that I going to talk about over the next 3 weeks, and it will be posted every Wednesday in the same category.

Let’s say you have decided that you wanted to make some money on the internet. And you are very excited, as you have explored, researched, spoke to friends or even emailed me, getting all the resources…

… and informations telling yourself, “Yes! I believe Internet Marketing Work! Let’s make some money!”

OR

You have went pass that scenario like 2 years ago, you have “try” here and there wanting to make money online.

You might have make $500 in 2 years promoting some products., but it’s not even enough to pay off all the investments in domain names, hosting, autoresponders…

… ebooks, home study courses or even coaching packages.

Then, you must really read every single word that I’m speaking to you right now.

What you lack here, is the first secret that I’ll be revealing to you.

And that’s first key, you need to have is, “Having an Objective!”

What does having an objective means? You can see it as having a goal in mind, or even having a purpose.

Today, when someone ask me, “How can I start making money online?”

I will ask them this question, “How much do you want to make per month?”

95% of the time, I will get this reply, “As much as possible lah…” (Singapore slang)

Why do I set this to be the foremost “secret” of all? Because today you cannot go to your destination if you do NOT know where you are heading to.

What if you tell the Cab driver, to go ‘somewhere there’? Do you think you will reach your destination in time, or in the exact location?

Or do you think the cab driver will “drive” you out of his car, for wasting his time?

It’s totally the same here when you want to make money online.

The first question is, “What is my purpose/objective/goal of starting this internet business?”

And you must have a definite answer, and not a vague answer.

My first purpose or goal when I knew about the possibility of making money online is…

“I will give myself 3 years to learn all the fundamental skills of marketing, mainly traffic generation and traffic conversions…”

You might say, “Wow! 3 years is a lot of time!”

Then you must listen to my second statement:

“… So that I can build a multi-million dollars internet business in the next 5 years.”

Can you feel how my first statement tied in into my second statement?

You can use the same approach, if not, your answer can be as simple as…

“I want to start making US$300 per month from the internet, using only 2 hours per day of my time, and I will do it in 6 months time, by 21th Nov 2008″

When you set your objective, you would want to be realistic about it. Not only that, you want to be at specific as possible.

**Note how I use specific numbers like $300, and I even specify if it’s USD$ or SGD$. I also specify the amount of effort I want to put, 2 hours per day. Lastly, I have a specific dateline too.

If your background, is like mine, is from technical background, having zero experience in marketing, business or even sales. Then, you need to be give yourself more time…

But, if you have some experience, or you have the confidence, then you could set a faster goal like,

“I want to making $5,000 per month online…”

However, you do want to MAKE SURE that you achieve your goal. If not, you will feel so “lousy” about yourself as each and every time that you miss your goal, till you just…

… throw in the towel and say, “This Stuff doesn’t work!”

I have seen so many of them.

With that, I’m sure you are clear about the importance of setting an objective or purpose when you are starting your first internet business.

I use this not only for my first internet business, as I’m getting ready for my next product launch in June, I’m using the same approach, setting my purpose and etc.

So, take some time, locked yourself in a quiet room, and ask yourself this question,

“What’s my objective/purpose/goal for starting an internet business?”

Once you have the answer in your paper, or notepad, you are ready for the next step in my next post.
