Before we start to discuss what’s internet marketing, let me give you some opinion on, “What is Marketing?” It’s such a big word, and many a times, an over used word. Every businesses, companines on this earth needs marketing. Without marketing and sales, there’s no revenue into the business. If there is no revenue, then the entire business will go under, right?

You drive everyday to work, don’t you? If there is no more gas in your car, would your car able to take you to the next destination? So, marketing to any business is as good as gas in your car. In that case, what is marketing? Marketing is an exchange of goods/services (Look at donald trump book)

Now that you understand what is marketing, offline marketing is no different from online marketing. There are a few terms to it, internet marketing, online marketing, making money online, all I classified as the same category.

So, why is internet marketing both an art and science?

Simple, the main reason why is it an art, is because we are selling or market our products and services to human beings. And there’s one common thing that we all have… sorry, I don’t mean nose, eyes, body and etc. I mean everyone have a mind, emotions, and most important, a desire to want something in their life right now.

Let me ask you, “Do you have something right now in your life that’s lacking and you desire it so much? And 80% of the time, it’s not something that you need, it’s something that you want.” It might be your dream car, your dream house, to quit your job, to travel around the world, to lose weight, to be healthy, stay vibrant and you get what I mean, right?

So, when we are selling, we are selling to humans. We don’t sell to plants, animals, or even the wall, make sense? And why is it an art, is because we are dealing with all the human emotions in getting them to make a decision to buy. I’m sure you understand you are a complicated being, don’t you?

That’s why if you fail to make profit or your first sale when you start your very first website, don’t despair. Because in order to get another human to sit down in front of his computer, in another part of the world, reading your website and feeling all pump-up, with high emotions, trusting you and taking out his credit card, put in all his details and click on the “confirm” button, is not an easy feast!

The good news I discover is that marketing is a learnable skill. It’s not a talent, it’s not a gift that only some of the masters or gurus have, it’s a learnable skill, that ordinary humans like you and myself are able to learn. Guess what? It’s as easy as learning how to ride a bicycle.

At this moment, as you are reading this page right now, if I don’t get your attention for the first 3 seconds, I will lose you as my reader. Even if you find the title to be interesting, I have to make sure that my first paragraph interest you, my second paragraph and so on.

If along the way of my writing, I start talking about my dog, my cat, my cow that die last night, things you are not interested; I know you will not be interested and click away, right? So, before you start doing that, I will go on to explain why internet marketing is a science.

One of the main reason that most newbie marketer who fail is that they don’t do enough testing. “What testing?” You might ask. See, one of the reason I love marketing is that it’s predictable. Even though I mention that all humans are different at first, however, do you know that most of us think, analyse, make decisions and take action in a predictable way?

It’s a science mainly due to the fact that we can calculate in terms of numbers and figures how much you can potentially make for each product or sevices you are selling.

Let me give you an illustration here.

Let say I’m selling a weight loss product here, it’s an ebook teaching, “How To Lose 50 Pounds In 5 Days The Easy Way!” Do you think I have a ready market and buyers here? You bet.

Also, I would get about 50 visitors to my website every day. They are unqiue visitors, not repeat visitors. So, in total, in a month of 30 days, I would get 1,500 visitors, right? Ok good! Let’s assume that out of every 1,000 visitors coming to my website, I only get 1 order, what is the percentage over here? It’s 1 divided by 1,000, so it’s 0.1% conversion.

So, unless I start making changes to my website, in terms of design, copywriting, user experience and etc, I’ll forever get only 1 order every 1,000 visitors, make sense?

In order to increase that percentage into 0.5%, 1% or even 2%, you would need to do split testing. Split testing simply means to create another carbon copy of your webpage. From it, you change only one variation on the new copy, for example, the background color. Now, when the visitors landed on your website, the first visitor will goes to the first webpage, the second visit will go to the new copy, the third visitor will goes back to the first webpage, and so on.

What you will end up is 25 visitors on first page, and 25 visitors on the new page. As the month pass, you might get 1 order on the first page again, but this time, you get 3 orders on the second page. So what does this means?

It means that the new background color that you change is more appealing to the group of buyers who wants to lose weight. That’s it!

The conclusion to this is that it’s easy to make a decent income on the internet. Once you understand how to sell to the human emotion, give value in whatever you are selling, and start to test the variation, you will start to see the holy grail.

I have been running my own web business and also internet business for 3rd year running. I realize there are more and more courses, ebooks, softwares and tons more information teaching how to make money from the internet.

I used to coach when I first started, and personally, as a newbie, I was overwhelmed with tons of information too. I always say that today is NOT a lack of information, it’s a HUGE floods of information out in the internet. And if you wants to build an internet business successfully, knowing which information is junk and which is gold is critical.

My web business is set to double this year from 2008, and my internet passive income is set to multiply at least 5 to 10 times by end 2009.

When I mean set, I mean it’s guarantee.

Just like my son is now 6 months old, by Sep 2009, he will be 1 year old. It’s guarantee! There’s no guesswork, or what if… right?

Come Sep, he will be and going to be one year old, and I would expect him to do things and action of what a one year old child would do. That’s the law of the universe! And if he doesn’t do things like a one year old, then of course I would be worried, other than that, he’s growing fast and on his path to reach his one year mark.

I strongly believe I can do it too, as I know thousands of other people are already doing it, as this is a God’s given gift in all of us.

However, it’s not common among the newbies, and I did not talk about that previously, mainly due to the complexity and huge amount of time and capital needed.

Over here, I’ll go through the steps that’s need from the start till the end of a product launch.

1) Market Research
2) Keyword Research
3) Survey the Market
4) Decide to Go Ahead Or Not…
5) Develop the Product
6) Work on The Branding and Design
7) Write The Salesletter
8.) Put Everything together, Product, Design, Salesletter and Payment Process
9) Get Ready For launch
10) Split Test Your Salesletter
11) Get Affiliates, JV partners, and Drive Traffic
12) Launch!

Here are the simple layout of a typical product launch. Of course, there are too many moving parts here. I cannot go into the entire details.

In fact, there are so many home-study courses out there just to maybe teach the entire process, or even just the last process, or even just writing the salesletter and etc.

The 12 steps above is what I follow for my new product launch happening this coming Friday, 27th June 2008.

Let me share with you 9 timeless experience and internet marketing tips that I encounter during this product launch:

1) Prepare Early, Planned in Details – Prepare as early as possible. If this is your first product launch, start something small, and something that you have the “confidence” to finish and follow through. As the saying goes, “After the first time, the rest will be the easy”. It’s totally true!

My first product launch 2 years back took me 4 months to work on it! The same product 2 years later, took me half the time, only 2 months with a lot of complex strategies added to it.

2) Envision Your End-Product – Choose a date you want to launch your product! And work backwards towards it. Set milestones and time line in between! Work on them.

3) Work Out The Numbers! – This is my favorite part! Numbers means both my capital and my potential ROI. You need to calculate that. I always do.

If I decide to invest US$2,000 in a product, I would make sure I get back 5 times my investment over say 2 years. That’s a pretty good investment, don’t you think?

That’s what I did for my first product launch in 2006. I invested about US$1,800 in total, and I get more than 5 times back.

4) After Step 4, There’s NO turning back… – If you recall what’s step 4 above, it’s to decide! In many personal development books or seminar, they always says that Decision is Most Powerful! That’s true!

So, once you decide to work on your product, after the first 3 steps, remember, there’s no turning back. Why?
It’ll prevents you for giving up and stopping half-way. One fact and truth everyone knows, if you give-up, you’ll definitely lose. But if you press on, there’s still chances of winning.

5) Assemble Your Team – You do not want to be a One-Leg Kicking team! That’s insanity! I don’t do that, and I don’t recommend you do that too.

Find out what’s your strength and which part in the entire process you going to be involved. For example, I do my own design, my partner work on the programming. I plan and strategies the marketing.

The only thing we outsource is Product Development, and maybe salesletter.

So, make sure you do that, and gather your team as early as possible. You can outsource or work on term projects.

6) Stick To Your Datelines! Period! – Once you plan out your dateline, stick to it! Never, never and never try to delay it. Of course, there’s no 100%.

Remember, if you start to move one day or 3 days from the first few steps, it’ll snowball into weeks or even months towards the end.

So, when you say that you need to finish the design by 12th June 2008, make sure you do it. If it’s the person that you need to outsource to, then set the dateline earlier, say 8th June 2008.

7) Manage Everyone, including Yourself! – In order for any projects to finish in time, and with the expected results, management skills comes into the daily tasks.

I learned so much about management skills these 2 months. This is a new skills I have been picking these few months, outsourcing and managing.

Not only that, managing yourself always proof to be a challenge. So, that’s important too.

8.) Be Prepared For Obstacles – No matter how well a planner, management or even a leader you are… there’s always obstacles, challenges or even hip-cups that could occur.

Situations like this, the only way is to always look on the bright side. See what’s you are learn from this situation.

A great example is my writer for this new product. The dateline was set 45 days ago. In between, he have exams, computer crash, storm coming and house break-in recently. I’m speechless!

So, as much as I want and can planned, we still have to learn to work around it.

9) Lastly… Enjoy the process! – To be honest, I love product launches! It’s the fruits of a team’s effort. For now, it’s both mine and my partner, and my writer’s.

Not only I get the satisfaction of working on a product launch, I love the financial part of it too! If it’s done well, it’ll give me a great source of residual income.

And that’s how my first product in the entire 2007 gave me, one of my source of residual income, month after month.

So, once I setup and launched it correctly, all I need is to maintained it.

and I had done 2 out of the 3 consultation!

The first one I’m going to talk about is the very first person who took action right away and snap up the first slot. His name is Wong Chen Dong, creator of www.EmpireDotCom.com

This guy is amazing! I’m really shocked that he have taken up the first slot, and he wants my advice on how to improve his website.

When I first went into his website, I realize he got everything that he have, maybe even more than what I have got in my website, in terms of all the widgets and etc.

Nevertheless, he invested in me, and I start my homework!

You see, even though he invest $100 for 60 minutes of my time, but he got a lot more.

Before I really agree to meet him personally, I would need to do my homework first. I asked for a list of questions he going to ask and I will based on those questions to advice.

With that, I make circles, comments, and my notes on all the papers. So, in total, I guess I had a total of 10 notes or so.

Then, I spend another maybe 1 hour to travel to the place we agreed on meeting. The entire meeting was really pleasant.

I found a great environment, have drinks and started our conversation. I’ll not get into the details, but however, here’s are a few internet marketing tips I gave him.

** Based on what his website is at now, and where he wants to move to, here’s are the tips:

1) Branding – This is first and foremost if you truly want to build a 6 figure internet business.

2) Increase traffic by at least 50% to even over 100% – He just missed out this one element to get constant traffic everyday to his blog. And that’s how my blog is so popular.

3) Direction – Which direction do you intend to move into? Decide and start taking the first step! He’s on his way.

4) Increase subscriber response rate – How to increase your subscriber response rate by 50% to over 200%?

5) Leverage on your strength – This is something 80% of newbie marketer doesn’t know or do. Most of them focus on their weakness rather than strength. But, do you know your strength? I have pointed that out to Chen Dong during that session.

With that, instead of talking for 1 hour, we end up chatting for almost 2 hours.

And it took me another 1 hour to get back home. So, if you calculate, I took 1 hour to prepare, 2 hours to travel and 2 more hours to advice, a total of 5 hours.

And I only get paid for $100, is it worth it?

You bet it sure does! First, I need to tell you that I do not need to do the consultation. I don’t need the money! Period!

I’m doing because I want to do it and see who are the serious people reading my blog everyday.

Next Wednesday, we will be touching on, What Are Your Internet Marketing Plans?

Most internet marketing experts would have all these 3 component in place when they launched a product, or start their internet business.

During my first year, I knew nothing of this sort, and like everyone else, I just want to see money coming in and just put together a product and started selling it.

Did my product sell? Yes! In fact, it did pretty well, that it’s giving me residual income each and every month. And after 18 months now, it’s still giving me constant sales…

month after month!

It was only during my 2nd year of marketing, I start to realize I’m using the entire process unconsciously.

Now that I understand this better, it’s giving me a very powerful edge in any market that I’m working on or for my clients.

So, once you define your objective, you can start determine what kinds of internet marketing strategies you want to employ?

Using back the same objective last week, “I want to start making US$300 per month from the internet, using only 2 hours per day of my time, and I will do it in 6 months time, by 21th Nov 2008 ”

So, what are the kinds of marketing strategies you can think of that can give you such a result?

Take a piece of blank paper, by read this post, follow this exercise.

(Do not PRE-Judge what you like or do not like, just write down all the possibilities first)

Here’s some of my examples…

1) Being an affiliate selling other people’s product
2) Developed my own products
3) Start an Adsense website, developed 100 in 3 months
4) Offer my skills, get freelance design project from Elance, Guru and others
5) And many others…

For now, I’ll only stick to 4.

For your first marketing strategy, you can dig further into it. There are many ways to being an affiliate selling other people’s product.

What are those that you can think of?

For that, let’s list some examples of marketing strategies.

1) Start a simple blog and start blogging.
2) Create a landing page, drive traffic, capture leads and being an affiliate
3) Create an account in eBay and focus on eBay traffic
4) Create a Squidoo page to sell affiliate products

See! There are many ways to go about it, what are the ways you want?

And if you want, you can dig another level further into it. If you think this is clear enough, what you want is to go through the entire list again.

After you finished with the entire list, and you know there’s no more other marketing strategies that you know, you can start to select.

The selection process is very important. Like most internet marketing expert, it’s all about knowing yourself and making the choice that you like and suits you.

So, how do you select? You’ll select based on your strengths, your passion and confidence.

Let me explain it further.

What you want is to create a simple table, like this.

So based on your strategies, put them under main and sub marketing strategies.

Then create a column for Strength, Passion and Confidence. After that, what you want is to give each one a score, as shown.

1 being the lowest, and
10 being the highest score.

Here’s some questions to help you better score them.

Strength:
What are my strengths?
Are my strengths able to help me to complete this task easier?
Who else do I need help from to complete this task?

Passion:
Am I passion about doing this?
If after 6 months and I did not make a single cent from this strategy, will I still be doing it?

Confidence:
How confidence will I follow through for this entire strategy?
Do I have any knowledge or experience on this?
Do I have anyone who I can always count on to ask for advice or help?

Hope these questions will help you to score better for each one.

After you have done the scoring system, add up all the numbers and by then, I’m sure you’ll know the answer yourself in your heart.

If in any case, you have a tied, then it’s totally up to you to choose which one you prefer better.

Most importantly, always remember my internet marketing tip, be Focus! Since this might be your first project or business, focus on one, do it well, learn the ropes, then do more later…

It’s not necessary so, personally, I feel there are many opportunities out there. In fact, I realize there are too many opportunities, and ways to make money and informations out on the internet nowadays, that…

So, let’s explore the ways where you can start making extra money at home.

Own Skills

Do you have a skill to offer? This is the best way to make an extra money at home. Are you a designer? Are you a techie that can do coding or programing? Or Are you good at writing?

How about some really simple skills like data entry? Or even get paid to click on ads?

How I first started my first business online is by providing web design services to my friends…

If you have read my book, “Insider Secrets to Building a 6 Figure Income“, you will know that my background is in design and animation. And in fact, my wife background is in programming.

So, after brain storming what we can do, we say, “Hey, why not start building website for people?”

And that’s how we started out web development business, and later on, we offer other services like web traffic generation and conversions for our clients to increase their sales online.
So, today, start taking a piece of blank paper, and start thinking what you can do, what you like to do…

Maybe even like baby-sitting, or you like dogs, you can offer dog walking service. Or maybe you are good at cleaning, you can start by offering simple part-time cleaning services.

It need not be online, selling things online, it can starts from offline, and integrate your marketing using the internet later on.

Execise You Can Do

So, today, take a piece of blank paper.

Draw a circle in the centre of the paper. Write this down, “What Am I Good At?”

Once you have that, start drawing out branches of it. For example, “Design, Sleeping, Networking, Sales”

Let say you only have 4 main branches. Then in each main branches, start thinking what can you do. For example, Design, “What can I do?”

Design; I can design logo using Photoshop. I can do interior design. I’m good with colors. I can design web pages. I design good looking and high converting squeeze pages.

See where I’m getting into.

Once you have all the sub-branches for your 4 main branches, see if you can “dig” deeper into it.

For example, I can design logo using Photoshop. “What else can I do?”

For design logo, I can offer service to start-up business. I can offer service to my neighbourhood shops. I can go to outsource websites like, www.guru.com, www.GetAFreelancer.com, www.Elance.com and offer my services.

Note how this entire simple execise is getting into.

And once you complete it for all the main branches, you will get something like a…

… YES! MindMap!

With the mindmap, you can start choosing what you like to do, and choose to do, and start working on it. You might just start making your first $100 for the first month…

Celebrate!

Before long, you might be making $1,000, and $2,000, and $5,000 from your home.

And frankly speaking, that’s how I start to build my 6 figure income working from home, together with my wife and my upcoming new-born baby.

Why?

Because it’s already too overwhelming for most beginners to start making money on one niche, let alone working on a 2 or more at one time.

So, let’s talk about how you can start making consistent monthly income from your niche market.

Today, it’s very possible to be able to make consistent monthly income from your niche market. All you is to do is to decide right away when you jump into your market. Isn’t that simple?

Secondly, is to consiously work on a sales funnel on how have that monthly income.

What is the one key element that you must have today in order to make monthly income from the internet? Simple! That is the number of people in your list.

I’m sure you have heard it before, the money is in your list. I totally believe in that. Imagine today, you have a list, in a certain niche, of about 5,000 people. And all of them have visited your site, and continue to stay in your list, because they like you, and value your informations.

So, with that, all you need is to schedule and plan out your 6 months marketing calender, what do you want to review, or promote on a monthly basic? There are many ways to do it, and I will talk about it more in another blog post.

For example, with 5,000 people in your list, only 1% of them buy the promotion, which is very very modest, the number is 50 sales.

And let’s say, each sale is about $40, and that’s already $2,000 for that month.

So, you might ask me, “Roy, are you sure it’s that simple…?” Personally, it’s that simple for me. I have a niche market in online gaming, and in that niche, I have built over 17,000 people in my list who are crazy about the online game, so, you can do the calculation yourself.

Today, start considering to collect names and emails in your business or online business. If you are running a traditional offline business, it’s equally as important. I have helped many of my clients to increase their sales only, just by collecting names on their website. So, to me, it’s that important!

Imagine you are running a retail shop selling ice-cream, (you might ask, why ice-cream? Haha… because I love ice-cream), and whenever someone drop by and buy an ice-cream from you…

… you just need to ask, “Would you like to have an additional scoop of ice-cream for free when you signup for our promotional campaign, by just writing down your first name and email?”

So, with that, let say, over 3 months period, you collected a total of 500 names and emails.

Seriously, I used to think that I know what’s core desire and extreme desire for success is? When I know the news that I’m going to be father soon, this really give me the Desire and I would called, “WHY”, to fight and work hard no matter what happens.

My partner, and my beloved wife is the very first “WHY” I must be successful. Now that my first baby is going to be born in about 6 months, it’s a stronger and bigger “WHY” now.

So, today, let me ask you this question, “What is your WHY in your life?”

See, we do not wake up the next day, or born to wanting to be successful. Yes! It’s our God given nature to want to increase and grow, and we see that especially in babies.
